Behind Setanta Academy is a team of international specialists who are actively coaching, and thus they bring practically-applied coaching methods to our course creation.

Our Story

Setanta Academy is part of Ireland’s leading sport and fitness education institution, Setanta College. With over 20 years experience in delivering education in Personal Training, Strength & Conditioning, and Performance Science, Setanta Academy was created to expand our range of courses to facilitate a wider audience and ensure our expert tuition is made available to all.

Setanta Academy will offer a range of courses including introductory Strength and Conditioning courses, industry-level Sport Technology CPD courses, Child Growth Development and Movement and more.

Setanta Academy Creators bring significant elite level experience across sport, fitness, and wellness to their content creation, backed up by higher level qualifications.

Dr. Liam Hennessy

Dr. Liam Hennessy is the Founder and President of Setanta College. He is a qualified Physical Education teacher, Exercise Physiologist and Strength & Conditioning Coach. He has spent over 20 years working full-time in sport and is fitness coach to 3-time Major Winner Padraig Harrington.

Dr. Micheál Cahill

Micheál is the Chief Operating Officer of Setanta College. He is currently Head of S&C with Limerick Senior Footballers following a long period in the US. His experience also includes various roles in sports medicine, performance and research. He obtained his PhD at Auckland University of Technology focusing on speed development in young athletes.

PJ Wilson

PJ is the Head of Education at Setanta College. PJ Wilson has extensive experience in the industry, working in performance roles such as Cardiff City FC, Bath Rugby and Munster Rugby. He is also currently working towards a PhD in Decision-Making Under Uncertainty in High Performance Environments.

 

Dr. Christine Wall

Christine is a Biokineticist having completed a Master’s degree in Biokinetics at North-West University before completing a PhD in Biokinetics from the University of the Free State. She is now the Programme Lead on the MSc in Sports Injuries & Return to Performance Management and lecturer on the MSc in  Sports Biomechanics and Movement Science.
